THE OPPORTUNITY:

This is a remote opportunity and is open to candidates that reside anywhere in the United States or Canada. 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Infrastructure and Monitoring Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Cloud Infrastructure and Monitoring Engineer, you will be responsible for the automation and management of our AWS infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, cost efficiency, and high availability.

You will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust monitoring systems to ensure the health and performance of our cloud environment. This role requires expertise in AWS, infrastructure automation, monitoring tools, and performance optimization techniques.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities include:

Cloud Infrastructure Automation:

  • Utilize Terraform and other relevant tools to automate the provisioning and management of infrastructure resources in AWS.
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications on ECS/EKS.
  • Configure and maintain RDS and FSx instances to meet application requirements.
  • Utilize AWS Account Factory to manage and scale AWS accounts.
  • Implement and manage patch management systems for Windows and Ubuntu Linux using tools like Ansible.
  • Develop scripts and automation workflows using Python to streamline infrastructure operations.

Cost Optimization:

  • Utilize tools such as CloudCheckr and AWS Cost Manager to monitor and optimize costs associated with AWS services.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, recommend optimization strategies, and implement cost-saving measures without compromising performance and reliability.

Disaster Recovery Solution Design and Testing:

  • Design and implement disaster recovery (DR) solutions to ensure business continuity and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct regular testing and simulation exercises to validate the effectiveness of the DR plans and identify areas for improvement.

Monitoring and Performance Optimization:

  • Implement and maintain robust monitoring systems using tools such as New Relic and CloudWatch.
  • Specialize in Application Performance Monitoring (APM) using New Relic, focusing on identifying and resolving application performance bottlenecks.
  • Perform infrastructure monitoring using CloudWatch, ensuring proactive detection of system anomalies, troubleshooting of issues, and optimization of system performance.
  • Conduct capacity planning, load balancing, and resource utilization optimization to ensure optimal performance and scalability.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Extensive experience working with AWS services, including ECS/EKS, RDS, FSx, and AWS Account Factory.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python.
  • Experience with patch management for Windows and Ubuntu Linux.
  • Solid understanding of cost optimization techniques using CloudCheckr, AWS Cost Manager, and other cost management tools.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery solution design and testing.
  • Expertise in monitoring tools such as New Relic and CloudWatch.
  • Experience in Application Performance Monitoring (APM) using New Relic

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively in a team environment.
