The prevalence of hearing loss among Americans is increasing – and it’s not just the elderly who are affected. Earlier this year, the WHO identified hearing loss as a serious public health issue, with “over 1 billion 12–35-year-olds at risk of losing their hearing, due to prolonged and excessive exposure to loud music and other recreational sounds.” This is especially important because we have to consider the compounding effect of noise exposure at work in addition to noise exposure at home. Hearing loss is permanent, and the simplest way to avoid it is through prevention.
