VelocityEHS talks about closing the EHS perception gap and to focus on what matters most.

Video Transcript

I want to talk to you today about a perception problem that exists with the work the we EHS professionals do.

You’ve got your front line EHS workers, the people who are actually doing the inspections and the audits and talking to the people on the factory floor.

There are people who bear the title of EHS specialists, EHS coordinators, (which is what I was).

And they know all of the inefficiencies and pain points in doing that work, but they’re not in the position to do anything about it.

Above them you’ve got EHS directors, maybe VPs and other executives – they see the end products of what those front-line workers are doing.

But that’s all they see.

They don’t see the effort and the pain that went into it.

So, ironically, they are in a position to fix the problem, but don’t know that there is a problem.

You probably have this problem based on my experience.

So, what do we do about it?

Get better engagement with your entire workforce, including within the walls of corporate EHS.

And look for ways of making all of your EHS information more visible and accessible.

Eliminate the perception gap and focus on what matters most.
