VelocityEHS ergonomist Jennie Dustin helps you “get a grip” on trash.

Video Transcript

Hi, I’m Jennie Dustin, a certified professional ergonomist at Humantech (now VelocityEHS Ergonomics). Sometimes we feel like we have to go after big-ticket or knock-it-out-of-the-park solutions when looking for opportunities to improve ergonomics in the workplace. But sometimes, it’s okay to capture those low-hanging fruit solutions, too. So, I wanted to share one of those solutions with you today.

Today, we have the LiteLift Trash Can Liners. What these do is simply add a handle to the end of a typical trash can liner so that when employees, and maybe your janitorial or custodial staff, are removing the can liners, they are able to hold the garbage bag with both hands, thus distributing the load across both shoulders and elbows.

Now, of course, we know that this isn’t a complete substitute for making sure that your garbage can liners are smaller so that they naturally cannot lift as much weight, or possibly using a cart to transport larger bags. But it is a quick, easy, low-hanging fruit solution.

Thanks very much for joining us today, and as ever, if you have additional questions or want more information, please visit Humantech (now ehs.com).
