Hi, my name is Bianca Sfalcin, and I’m an ergonomist with Humantech (now VelocityEHS Ergonomics). Today, I’m going to be reviewing laptop stands, such as these here, and what to consider when purchasing them.

Laptops are slowly overtaking desktops as the preferred technology due to their portability and convenience. However, because the keyboard and screen are connected, it lacks the adjustability that we need to maintain neutral postures, resulting in awkward back, neck, and shoulder postures. Over a prolonged period of use, it can lead to discomfort and pain in these areas.

Laptop stands are essential when it comes to improving the ergonomics of laptop use. These laptop stands help raise the height of the laptop, so the top of the screen is at or just below eye level, which minimizes those awkward postures. When looking for a laptop stand, a high degree of adjustability is the first thing you’ll want to consider. We’ve recently reviewed these laptop stands, and here are a few key features and highlights.

Here we have the Ergo-Q 330 by BakkerElkhuizen. It has six height adjustability settings, ranging from 4.3 inches to 7.5 inches. It’s able to accommodate laptops up to 17 inches. The unique feature about this laptop stand is that it has an integrated document holder, which is great if you refer to paper documents frequently. It eliminates the awkward neck postures that would be required if you have the document placed down on your desk. In addition, it’s very compact, which is great if you travel for work or work in multiple different locations.

Here we have the Easy Riser Laptop Stand by Kensington. This laptop stand has four settings of height adjustability, ranging from 4.5 inches to 7.5 inches. It’s capable of accommodating laptops up to 17 inches. The great thing about this laptop stand is that it’s extremely sturdy, with rubber gripping at the top and bottom to prevent any sliding of your technology. And lastly, this laptop stand is very compact, which is great for those who travel for work or work in different locations.

Here we have the SmartFit Laptop Riser by Kensington. This laptop stand has four settings of height adjustability, ranging from 7 inches to 9 inches. It’s able to accommodate laptops up to 15.6 inches. The disadvantage of this laptop stand is that it’s not compact like the other two. It has more of a design to be placed at a stationary workstation. The advantage of this laptop stand is that it has the highest vertical height, with adjustability up to 9 inches. The unique feature of this laptop stand is that it has a Qi charging pad, which allows you to wirelessly charge your mobile devices.

In conclusion, when choosing a laptop stand that’s right for you, it’s important to consider the height adjustability, the size and weight of your laptop, and if you travel frequently for work, choose one that’s portable and compact.
